Akuma Win ESEA 37 Advanced Division, ESL See no Reason to Disqualify Them

The infamous Ukrainian team Akuma, who was earlier accused in cheating by the majority of CIS teams, managed to win ESEA Season 37: Advanced Division – Europe. This means that the team will participate in premier division for the league’s 38th season. ESL state that currently they don’t have any reasons to disqualify the team from their event.

Akuma advanced to the playoffs from the 7th place in the regular season, which they finished with a 11-5 score. Later in the playoffs they managed to make it all the way through the upper bracket, defeating Ambush (2-1), Nordavind (2-0), bankaPEPSI (2-0) and ENTERPRISE (2-0). Having a 1-map advantage, in the tournament’s grand finals they outplayed a French team Double Poney with a 3-2 score.

Earlier participants of EPIC CIS RMR League Spring 2021 published an open letter to VALVE to investigate Akuma, claiming that they had reasons to believe Akuma had played unfair during the event. As of yet the situation has not got any development – the team already participated in StarLadder CIS RMR 2021, where they placed last after failing to win a single match.

ESL representative went to Reddit to comment on the situation. He explained that the company is constantly communication with ESIC, however currently there is no evidence that would lead to Akuma’s disqualification.

ESEA Season 38: Premier Division – Europe begins already this Saturday, July 17th, and will continue for two month. The event will feature 16 teams competing for a $50,000 prize pool and one invite to ESL Pro League 15.
